Swing Painting Process Art

June 25, 2015 by Meredith @ Homegrown Friends

Don’t tell my kids, but I come up with a lot of my fun ideas in the middle of the night when one of my kids can’t sleep.  It’s the silver lining.  I’m always trying to find ways to get my kids’ bodies moving in creative ways.  I am super excited to introduce our Swing Painting Process Art.

WHAT YOU NEED FOR SWING PAINTING PROCESS ART

tempera paints (we used yellow, turquoise, magenta and white)
flattened pieces of a cardboard box
paint brushes
cups or jars for paint
swings (looking for a swing set? This is ours.)

TIME FOR SWING PAINTING PROCESS ART!

This was one of the easiest activities to set up.  I cut open a cardboard box and placed it under our swing set. I filled some mason jars with our favorite tempera paints and paint brushes.  That’s it!  Wouldn’t this be super fun to set up at a school and wait for the children to notice it?

the set up for the swing painting process artNow all you need are some adventurous kids!  Have the children lie on their bellies and pick up a paintbrush.  Swinging back and forth have the kids experiment with how to paint on the cardboard.

Swing Painting Process ArtMy children loved experiment with how high they could swing and reach different parts of the cardboard.  It was so much fun!

I love this idea. And while we don’t have swings here at home our tiny village has a great playground that never gets used by anyone else (that I’ve ever seen). So I guess we’ll be taking paint with us on our next visit. 🙂
