We are all about easy, developmentally-appropriate activities. When I saw this activity two years ago at my daughters’ toddler time school I instantly fell in love. Seeing the gorgeous ribbons of slime is so visually appealing you just want to run over and sink your hands into the fun. I posted a picture on Facebook of my girls playing with the Slime Ribbons Scissors Activity and so many of you fell in love too so I thought I would share all the details.

HOMEMADE SLIME RECIPE
1 teaspoon borax powder dissolved into one cup of water.
In another bowl combine 1/2 cup glue with 1/2 cup of water. Mix well.
Pour the water/glue mixture into the borax mixture. Begin stirring. At first the mixture will be stringy, as you mix more it will form a ball. Throw out any extra liquid. The more you play with it the better it gets.
Note: If you do not have access to borax, try this slime recipe using laundry detergent from Fun at Home with Kids.

SLIME RIBBONS SCISSORS ACTIVITY
Set up your rack with the slime on the top. Now the fun begins!
Children (and adults) can watch as the slime starts to ooze its way through the rack. How long will it take to reach the table? Children can makes guesses and then count to see if their guesses are correct. At first the slime ribbons will be thick and then will get skinnier.
Children can play with the slime anyway they want, but one way we like to explore this set up is with scissors. Children can practice cutting the slime ribbons over and over again. Just keep putting the cut pieces up on top of the rack.
Seriously, we can not get enough of this. Endless fun!
This is a fantastic idea!
Thank you Jodie!
Very cool. I love it!
Love it. Will try it this week.
Have fun Tess!
how to do store the slime?
We store it in a plastic container with a lid.
Is boric acid the same thing?
No Marcy, boric acid is different and shouldn’t be used with children. Borax is a washing detergent found in the cleaning aisle.
Hi, will this slime stain clothing?
It does stick to clothing, but comes off with white vinegar.
