Homemade Scented Watercolors

June 19, 2014 by Meredith @ Homegrown Friends

Lately “smelly markers” are the number one choice in our house for creating drawings. Our mornings are filled will the smells of raspberry, mint, cherry and cinnamon. I thought it would be fun to transform our favorite scented markers into homemade scented watercolors. Such a fun way to add a new sensory experience to our painting explorations!

HOW TO MAKE HOMEMADE SCENTED WATERCOLORS

Get ready, homemade scented watercolors are so easy to make! Begin by purchasing a package of scented markers. We like the Mr. Sketch Scented Markers. Fill mason jars or containers with 1/4 cup water per jar. Place 1-2 same color markers tip down in the water.

Leave the markers for at least 24 hours or a few days to make them ever more vibrant. The smells that filled our room were amazing! I wish you could smell them through your computer. My kids kept coming over and requesting to smell each jar. They loved the process even before we painted!

Once the watercolors are ready you can take the markers out of the water and they are ready to use. We used them right out of the mason jars. I simply put a paintbrush in each jar and my kids got to work.
