Homemade Body Lotion

December 15, 2013 by Meredith @ Homegrown Friends

When I started researching how many toxic chemicals were in my everyday beauty products I threw them out and began purchasing the expensive organic brands. While I felt better about the products, I did not have much room in my budget for the high price tags. So I started to research making my own. Turns out with a few simple purchases you can make safe and cheap beauty products all in the comfort of your own home! Are you ready to make your own delicious smelling homemade body lotion with only three ingredients? Let’s get started!

WHAT YOU NEED TO MAKE HOMEMADE BODY LOTION

3/4 cup unrefined coconut oil
2 tablespoons cocoa butter
1/4 cup beeswax pellets
mason jar
spoon

NOTE: Because you have to buy some of these ingredients in bulk the starting price is high. Don’t worry these products last for years. Save money by splitting the costs with friends and making some batches together. Our Homemade Body Lotion also makes a fantastic gift!

HOW TO MAKE HOMEMADE BODY LOTION

In a glass jar (I use mason jars) combine 3/4 cup coconut oil, 1/4 cup beeswax pellets and 2 tablespoons cocoa butter. If your coconut oil is hard microwave for thirty seconds to liquify. Note: do not use a container that you will use for food. Mason jars work well because you can keep the body lotion in them.

Microwave for 1 minute and stir. Be careful the jar will be hot. If not completely melted microwave for thirty more seconds.

3 ingredient homemade body lotion you can make in minutes from Homegrown friendsSet aside and let cool completely. Once cool the lotion will look creamy. This lotion is great for children and adults. I use it on my face, body and hands and after my children’s baths. Package with a cute bow and you have a unique gift for the holidays or a birthday!
