I’m a huge fan of big art! I love brainstorming ways to take art projects and supersize them. I recently saw a video where simple paper lunch bags were turned into the coolest snowflakes. I immediately thought of my stack of paper grocery bags. As I experimented the process ended up being a little different, but the results were incredible! I created the Giant Paper Grocery Bag Snowflakes ahead of time, and then had my students in my Toddler Time Class in West Hartford, CT paint them with homemade puffy paints. These are a showstopper!
WHAT YOU NEED FOR THE GIANT PAPER GROCERY BAG SNOWFLAKES
paper grocery bags
scissors
low temp glue gun
puffy paint recipe- glue, shaving cream, liquid watercolors
paint brushes
HOW TO MAKE THE GIANT PAPER GROCERY BAG SNOWFLAKES
Collect 7 grocery bags and take the handles off. Next cut points at the top of each bag.
Using the hot glue gun, glue each bag on top of the previous bag.
Glue the top of the final bag and attach it to the bottom of the first bag.
Can you believe these are plain old grocery bags?
Next, I whipped up some homemade puffy paints. I love how they dry puffy with very little effort. To make your own mix equal parts glue and shaving cream and then add liquid watercolors to make your choice colors.
Now get painting!
Look at this beauty!
Once dry we hung it up in one of our art rooms. I can’t stop staring at it!
