One of my goals as an educator and a mom is to see each child for her unique strengths, rather than focusin on challenges as a negative or burden. With this in mind, I was so excited to be invited by Danya Abraham to be part of The Superkids Movement and help launch her new book The Superkids Activity Guide to Conquering Every Day. This book is full of ideas geared toward helping children use their strengths and support their challenges to continue to be the superkids they are. Kids cannot grow into healthy adults if they feel badly about the people they are. As I flipped through the book my eyes landed on the section regarding bedtime. With three spirited children bedtime is a challenge, and I though the DIY Superkids Crash Pad was right up our ally!

HOW TO MAKE THE DIY SUPERKIDS CRASH PAD
As described in the book The Superkids Activity Guide to Conquering Every Day, begin with a twin size duvet. Have your kids gather lots of stuffed animals, blankets and pillows. You will need a lot!
Now it is time to fill the inside of the duvet with as many stuffed animals, pillow and blankets as you can manage. lf you have really big stuffed animals, this is a great heavy lifting activity. All three of my children had to brainstorm and figure out how to work together to keep the duvet open and get the materials in.
Once the duvet is stuffed it is time to jump. We went over a few safety basics such as don’t jump on to your head as it can injure the neck and one person at a time so that no one bumps into each other. Time for the fun! My kids had such a blast. They were laughing and jumping over and over again.
We did this activity as part of our nighttime routine (and then so many times the next day). I added it to the first part of our routine, followed by showers and reading. Getting the energy out ahead of time helped for a smoother transition.
