DIY Spin Art Kids Wooden Building Blocks

March 1, 2019 by Meredith @ Homegrown Friends

Oh how I love when an idea pops into my head. I love creating wooden building blocks sets with children. In the past we have used liquid watercolors to paint the blocks. After making spin art wooden ornaments in December I thought it would be amazing to take our painted block building project and kick it up a notch. These DIY Spin Art Kids Wooden Building Blocks are so much fun to make and the results are gorgeous.

wooden blocks- we use these
squeeze paints- we like the Mala paints from IKEA
salad spinner- try this one
plastic plate or tray

HOW TO MAKE THE DIY SPIN ART KIDS WOODEN BUILDING BLOCKS

Add wooden blocks into the salad spinner. Squeeze different colored paints onto the blocks.

Next put the lid on and spin to mix the paints up creating the spin art effect. Child spinning the DIY Spin Art Kids Wooden Building BlocksAfter spinning the DIY Spin Art Kids Wooden Building Blocks

After each spin children can decide if they want to add more paint. It’s fun to watch the color change with each spin. Once finished carefully take the blocks out of the salad spinner and let dry on a plastic plate or tray. Do not use paper as the blocks will stick to it and be difficult to remove.

Once dry they are ready to play with! Someone on my studio class mentioned that these would be perfect as a travel set or to take to restaurants. Love that idea! I’m going to be adding a bowl of them to our block building area as a new accessory. DIY Spin Art Kids Wooden Building BlocksDIY Spin Art Kids Wooden Building BlocksArt Play!
