When I found out my brother and sister-in-law were having a baby I was so excited to become an aunt again AND I was super excited to help my mom plan a baby shower! I love party planning, and I have really wanted to plan a baby shower (we can blame that part on Pinterest!). My sister-in-law has a great love of books and purchases the most thoughtful ones for my children, nieces and nephews. I knew I wanted the party to reflect this love by creating a Children’s Books Baby Shower.

When planning the shower I wanted to keep it simple and focus on classic children’s book images. Our party was pool side on a gorgeous Summer day. A few decorations set the stage for a fun celebration.
Children’s Books Baby Shower Bunting
I printed out copies of book covers and cut them into large triangles. I laminated them and attached a long piece of embroidery thread to the back with a glue gun. Under the the Children’s Books Bunting I displayed a selection of books that I gave to the new parents to start what I know will be an awesome selection for their son.
Children’s Books Baby Shower Vases
Using some of our recycled tin cans I printed out some children’s book covers and some of my favorite pages and taped the to the outside of the cans. Some of our garden flowers were the perfect simple additions to my new favorite vases!
Goodnight Moon Cake
I adore making themed cakes. I researched Pinterest a lot for this one and settled on the idea of making a cake that looked like a stack of books. I made four rectangle cakes- two chocolate, two vanilla. As I was about to ice them I fell in love with the cover image of Goodnight Moon. I am so glad I made the cake a nod to one of the most iconic children’s book images of all time. The icing is homemade buttercream tinted with all natural food dyes.
Children’s Books Baby Shower Activities
We kept the activities very simple as I knew most people would be more interested in playing in the pool and socializing with friends and family then intricate baby shower games.
Guess the Baby’s Weight and Date
On white poster board I created charts that allowed the party guests to take a quick guess with the chance to win a Starbucks Gift Card. My mom enlarged baby photographs of the new mommy and daddy as a nice touch.
Wishes for Baby
I found this idea for a great printout and thought it would be a wonderful keepsake for the new baby and parents. The guests had a lot of fun filling out the answers!
Decorate a Onesie
Simple white onesies in a variety of sizes and a collection of fabric markers are all we needed to create some fun new clothes for the baby. We did this at my own baby shower and I loved dressing Quinn in the creative onesies!
The day was perfect. The sun was shining and so much love was present. We can’t wait to meet you little one. I hope you know you were loved before you were born. Welcome to the family!
