My daughter Luca may be Caillou’s number one fan! When it came time to choose her birthday theme no one was surprised when she gleefully exclaimed “I want a Caillou Birthday Party!” And so my almost 3 year old received the party of her dreams!
DECORATIONS FOR CAILLOU BIRTHDAY PARTY
I always start birthday parties with a theme chosen by my children and then pick a color scheme and activities based on this theme. We focused on a bright array of colors, and I made a large mural with the famous Caillou name sign with drawings of Caillou and his friends Clementine and Leo. The mural was created by taping two long pieces of white butcher paper together. Brightly colored helium balloons were taped to both sides of the sign. My daughter was mesmerized by the enormous sign! We kept it up on our wall for weeks.
The table was set with a simple blue paper tablecloth, yellow plates and red napkins.
ACTIVITIES FOR CAILLOU BIRTHDAY PARTY
Because a large part of the Caillou TV show centers on the activities he does with his friends we set up a few simple preschool friendly activity stations. The first activity center was creating Simple Cereal Necklaces. I found these delicious Fruitful Os by Cascadian Farm that are naturally fun colors without the need for artificial food dyes. I set up pieces of yarn with a one piece of cereal tied to one end so that their cereal pieces wouldn’t fall off. The children loved making the necklaces. Of course sometimes more cereal ended up in their bellies than on the necklaces!
I also set up a Caillou themed playdough table. Prior to the party we made red, yellow, blue and green playdough balls using our Homemade Playdough Recipe. In addition to our playdough I set out rolling pins, stamps, plastic sticks and Caillou toy figurines. This table was a huge success!
LUNCH FOR CAILLOU BIRTHDAY PARTY
After pouring my heart and soul into food when my son was two and having the kids too excited to eat it at all leaving me stressed out we now keep the party food very simple. The day before the party I call our local pizza place and pre-order a bunch of cheese pizzas to be delivered for lunchtime. The kids are happy and the parents are too! Drinks with silly straws completed the meal.
CAKE FOR CAILLOU BIRTHDAY PARTY
I love making birthday cakes! My children give me advice as to what they want their cakes to look like and then I have some fun! For Luca’s Caillou Cake I made a chocolate cake with white buttercream frosting. The best chocolate cake recipe is Barefoot Contessa’s Beatty’s Chocolate Cake. My buttercream frosting is 4 sticks of softened butter, 4 cups powdered sugar, 2 teaspoons vanilla and 1/2 teaspoon salt. Beat the ingredients together until smooth. After baking the cakes and letting them cool I added a thick layer of frosting to the top of one layer, put the second cake on top and then frosted the whole cake with buttercream frosting. Next I mixed up a small amount of the leftover frosting and tinted it dark pink and blue with my favorite natural food dyes from Seelect Tea. I made the Caillou sign with the tinted frosting adding a 3 and Luca with some of the white buttercream frosting. Some of our Caillou toy figurines made the cake complete.

Make a wish sweet girl. Mine already came true.
