Each week in Homegrown Play School, the preschool/Kindergarten program at my art studio in West Hartford, CT, Homegrown Studio, we explore a song through literacy games, art projects, mathematics and sensory experiences. I put together an invitation to create these incredible Abstract Water Paintings Inspired by 5 Little Speckled Frogs. While the focus is always on the process, I was blown away by how gorgeous these turned out! Don’t they look like a frog could jump right in?

HOW TO MAKE THE ABSTRACT WATER PAINTINGS INSPIRED BY 5 LITTLE SPECKLED FROGS
Prior to introducing the project, pour some blue liquid watercolor into a jar and dilute with water. In another jar mix together equal parts neon green paint and white glue. Set out the liquid watercolor paint with a pipette, the green paint with a paint brush, the canvas, a stick and the cotton pads.
After singing the song 5 Little Speckled Frogs encourage the children to create their own Abstract Water Paintings. How they create these amazing works of art is entirely up to them. They can use the pipette to squeeze the liquid watercolor onto the canvas and observe what happens.
They can use the green paint/glue mixture to add the sticks and cotton pads onto the canvas and then squeeze the pipettes on the mixture again. Does the liquid water color look different when squeezed on the pads versus the canvas?
In our Play School class children worked for over thirty minutes on these incredible pieces!
I don’t want to let these Abstract Water Paintings go to their new homes. I love them so much!
