10 Children’s Books that Teach Acceptance and Empathy

March 23, 2014 by Meredith @ Homegrown Friends

I could get lost in the children’s section of a library for hours.  There is such a wealth of amazing books.  I love when I read a book and it immediately excites me, wanting to read it again and again to learn more.  It is even more amazing when a child says “read it again”.  Dr. Seuss’ brilliant book The Sneeches inspired me to create a book list of literature that focuses on acceptance and empathy.  Here are 10 Children’s Books that Teach Acceptance and Empathy.

    Perfect list! Thank you.
Also check out Z is for Zip- it’s a new children’s book about autism. It’s really a must have for upper elementary classrooms or for children who have siblings on the spectrum. It describes many different characteristics and facts about autism in a kid friendly way.
The more kids know the less they judge. And the easier adults talk to kids about disability, the easier it is for kids to accept those who are different and move on!
    Thanks!
