Clear Frame Portrait Drawings

August 10, 2017 by Meredith @ Homegrown Friends

Earlier this year we made these Clear Frame Portrait Paintings.  What started off as a simple art activity became so much more than I initially had in mind. The portrait paintings created an instant bond between the person being painted and the painter. This joy and connection authentically shined through and resonated with so many people around the world. Within days of the video going viral I began seeing the most amazing pictures and videos popping up on Instagram and Facebook of children of all ages, and grownups too, creating their own portraits. All smiles and laughter! I even went into my son’s classroom and did the project with 42 children and teachers. I wanted to create a paint-free version that still maintained the integrity of the project. Using chalk markers, we had a blast with these Clear Frame Portrait Drawings.Clear Frame Portrait Drawings

WHAT YOU NEED TO MAKE THE CLEAR FRAME PORTRAIT DRAWINGS

clear acrylic snap frames
chalk markers- we love this brand (you can also use dry erase markers, but they won’t be as vibrant)

HOW TO MAKE THE CLEAR FRAME PORTRAIT DRAWINGS

Set out some of the clear frames with the backings removed and the chalk markers. I took off the chalk marker caps ahead of time to make the project easier for the kids. Children (and adults) take turns holding the clear frames while the other person uses the chalk markers to draw the person’s face. This is a great project for focusing on facial features as well as building a trust and connection between two people.

While I love the Clear Frame Portrait Paintings, one of the benefits of using chalk markers instead is that they easily and quickly wipe off with a dry paper towel. This makes the transition between one artist to the next so simple.
