Bubble Wrap Printed Tote Bags - Homegrown Friends

Oh how I love when a project comes together! Now that I run toddler classes in at my kid art studio in West Hartford, CT I am always brainstorming fun process art projects that are developmentally appropriated. I originally used watercolors on these canvas tote bags, but was really disappointed in the results so I thought this time around we would try a different technique. These Bubble Wrap Printed Tote Bags were so much fun to create and the kids faces at the discovery of the paint transferring to the bags was priceless!

WHAT YOU NEED FOR THE BUBBLE WRAP PRINTED TOTE BAGS

canvas bags-these bags are great quality for the price
paint- you will need a variety of bright colors- make sure to use acrylic paint or fabric paint
foam rollers- we love these ones!
bubble wrap- either large sheets or open up the inside of manila bubble wrap envelopes like these

HOW TO MAKE THE BUBBLE WRAP PRINTED TOTE BAGS

Begin by covering a table or a section of the floor with bubble wrap and securing it with tape. Next I invited the children to choose a paint color. I squeezed it on a section of the table and had them use one of the foam rollers to spread the paint all over the bubble wrap.

Next, we took one of the bags and placed it on the paint. I showed the children how to pat and rubbed the bags so that the paint would “jump” onto their bags. They loved this part! Such a great sensory experience. Some of the children did not want to stop. Have the children lift a corner of the bag and then peel it back. Some of the children wanted me to do this for them.
