Ethical Fair Trade Clothing for Families

October 14, 2016 by Meredith @ Homegrown Friends

One of our goals this year as a family is to look at the items we purchase and make every attempt to purchase from ethical fair trade companies.  I recently shared the changes we will be making in our Halloween candy purchases, and now I am excited to share our favorite Ethical Fair Trade Clothing for Families. I hope the choices I share will be a conversation starter with your family on how we can demonstrate compassion and empathy every day.

Toms Shoes
TOMS are one of our favorite Ethical Fair Trade Clothing for Families

I have been a fan of TOMS shoes and their mission for 9 years. For every pair of shoes purchased, TOMS donates a pair to a child in need. I’m always looking for ways to be kind to our animal friends so I love that TOMS has a great collection of vegan shoes.  My daughters love these sparkly ones.

SUDARA

Sudara is one of our favorite ethical fair trade clothing for families

I found this company recently on Instagram.  I loved the look of the lounge pants, and then was pleasantly surprised to learn about the amazing mission behind this company.  Sudara creates “safe, sustainable jobs” to help women in India make their “way out of the sex-trade- or avoid it all together.”  The Punjammies pants come in styles of men, women and kids.  The company also sells shirts, robes, shorts and accessories. The Pumjammies are my go to pants to where in the house (in fact I’m wearing them right now!).

Threads 4 Thought
Threads for Thought are one of our favorite ethical fair trade clothing for families

I originally found Threads 4 Thought at our local Whole Foods store.  The clothes are so comfortable and stylish, but the best part is that the company used sustainable materials and fair trade practices.  Unfortunately, this company only makes adult clothing.  I wish they would make a kid line!

DUNS of Sweden

Duns of Sweden is one of our favorite Ethical Fair Trade Clothing for Families

Admittedly, our children’s clothing is the last piece of our puzzle in becoming a family that buys only ethical fair trade clothing.  My kids are super picky and we are on a budget.  Duns of Sweden creates organic, unisex clothes in super fun prints.  Check out this awesome dress! Beyond the cute clothes this company pays workers in India 20% higher salaries than the Living Wage in India and any hours past 9-5pm receive overtime.  When it is too hot the hours of work are adjusted.  This is a company whose clothing I can feel proud to have my kids wear.

Frugi

Frugi Clothing is one of our favorite choices for ethical fair trade clothing for families

Frugi clothes are made from organic cotton and have a great rating for ethical treatment of garment workers.  The clothes are bright and cheery with plenty of variety.

Beyond buying new clothes our family are huge fans of purchasing items from consignment shops and willing recipients of hand me downs.

Happy Shopping!
