Giant Fort Painting for Kids

I am having a blast with my new Toddler Time classes in West Hartford, CT. This week we added a bit of whimsy to our classes by creating this Giant Fort Painting for Kids.  We love our Magic Fort Kit!  I created the simple house construction and covered it with this awesome drop cloth. What a hit!

WHAT YOU NEED FOR THE GIANT FORT PAINTING FOR KIDS

Fort Magic Set
drop cloth (I needed 2 to cover the fort)
liquid watercolors
paint brushes

LET’S HAVE FUN WITH THE GIANT FORT PAINTING FOR KIDS!

Prior to welcoming my little friends to Toddler Time I created the Fort Magic house and covered it with large sheets of drop cloth and an additional drop cloth underneath the fort to catch drips. Liquid watercolors are so beautiful on the cloth and easy for little ones to use. I like these paint containers because they are easy for little hands to grasp. I placed the paint containers and brushes around the fort, and let the children discover them.  At first they were hesitant to get started so I crouched down, picked up a brush and made large brush strokes.  Their eyes lit up!  The fun was just beginning!

One of my favorite parts about working with little ones is the importance of going with the flow and letting them guide the direction of the play.  Originally, I had put a drop cloth under the fort to protect our floors, but the children starting painting on it, and I am so glad I continued to let them do so.  The colors were so vibrant and added such a magical element to the fort.  The children loved going in and out of it.

Such a fun experience and a gorgeous, playful work of art in the end!
