Homegrown Friends Classes Home Learning Environment

August 17, 2016 by Meredith @ Homegrown Friends

I am so excited to finally get this post up all about our home learning environment which is now the location for the brand new Homegrown Friends Classes in West Hartford, CT. Over the years are home environment has changed as I adapt to my children’s developmental ages and current interests.  As our home is now the location where I teach classes for babies, toddlers and preschoolers it needed to be a space that could work for a variety of age. What a fun challenge! I gravitate towards calming hues, lack of clutter and wooden furniture. Enjoy this tour of the Homegrown Friends Classes Home Learning Environment.

TIME TO TOUR THE HOMEGROWN FRIENDS CLASSES HOME LEARNING ENVIRONMENT

Our learning environment is divided into three indoor spaces plus a large outdoor space with an ample amount of blacktop, grass, an oversized sandbox and a climbing structure and swings.

THE INDOOR SPACE

Upon entering the Homegrown Friends Studio you will see a large room to the right that we use for our large indoor art projects when it is too hot/cold to use our fresh air art studio (more on that space later). The room has a long table from IKEA, a portable art cart filled with all the materials we need for the day and walls covered with happy child-made art. I keep this space very minimal so that we can push the table to one side and do large scale art projects with ease as well as give children ample room to move.

Our second room is where all the non-messy activities take place.  Here we have a block area with plenty of floor space to build, as well as a variety of manipulatives such as tree blocks, mobilos and magnet tiles. A small table and child-size chairs is perfect for playdough, small scale art and puzzles.

The other side of the room has a bookshelf filled with a selection of new and old favorites, couches for quiet places to read, plus places for parents to sit during our Toddler Time Classes and another low table for activities as well as  floor space to play.

One of my favorite spaces is our new fresh air art studio.  It makes me so happy to create in there!  The room has three walls of screens which makes a gentle breeze flow during the day.  So calming.  A large IKEA table with stools is in the center for creating.

This room has a large wall of art materials that the children can choose from as well as a small shelf that keeps all of the paints we need.

I keep the walls empty because I love hanging large pieces of paper from our butcher roll or this awesome drop cloth and then make some huge group paintings!

This place is such a joy to create in! I love watching children create art during our Toddler Time Class and Art Exploration Class for 3-5 year olds!

Our large outdoor space gives plenty of room for our favorite messy art projects and incorporating movement whenever we can.
