Books That Spark Creative Thinking

August 16, 2016 by Meredith @ Homegrown Friends

When I was a kid we had the coolest book of activities that I loved flipping through.  The book was filled with prompts that provided just enough direction to spark my imagination and creativity.  My mom recently gave me the book tattered pages and all. As I celebrate these happy memories I thought I would share 5 Books that Spark Creative Thinking.Books That Teach Creative Thinking

BOOKS THAT SPARK CREATIVE THINKING

Tangle Art and Drawing Games for Kids

This book is the creation of Jeanette Nyberg, founder of the blog Craftwhack.  My first thought when looking through the book was This would make the best birthday gifts! Pair this book with a cool pack of gel pens and you will have some happy kids.  My children loved trying out all the fun drawing ideas and learned some new techniques along the way.  You can see my full review of this great book here.

Exploring Books Through Play

If you follow my blog regularly you know I am all about play based learning and love using children’s books as inspiration.  My new book Exploring Books Through Play (yes I co-authored this one!) guides children and adults to use books as creative prompts to play through sensory exploration, art expression and many more hands-on learning opportunities.

Creatrilogy (Dot, Ish, Sky Color)

I am a huge Peter Reynolds fan and was lucky enough to hear him speak at my former grad school last year. Reynolds not only embraces the importance of creativity, but gets us all to acknowledge that we are all artists, we are all creators, we just have to believe.

Art Workshops for Children

We are huge fans of Hervé Tullet. His books inspired our projects like this one and this one. Art Workshops for Children guides children with fun prompts and games while leaving plenty of room for imagination and self-expression.

Beautiful Oops!

We love this book so much!  I reference it every day as we celebrate my children’s “Beautiful Oops” moments that lead to new and interesting learning opportunities and creative discoveries.
