Glittery New Year’s Ball Playdough

December 29, 2013 by Meredith @ Homegrown Friends

I know I am not the only one who is exhausted after all the holiday festivities and doesn’t want any time-intenstive recipes or activities to plan for New Year’s Eve. This year I am planning a few treats and activities that are so easy to create that they can be done in one day. Whether you are sitting at home eating pizza take-out or having a huge New Year’s Eve Party our Glittery New Year’s Eve Playdough is a simple activity that kids (and adults) will love. Everyone needs a little glitz on New Year’s Eve!

WHAT YOU NEED FOR THE GLITTERY NEW YEAR’S BALL PLAYDOUGH

2 C flour
1 C salt
2 C water
2 TB vegetable oil
4 tsp cream of tartar
1/2- 1 cup glitter (I used pink, silver, gold, green, and purple)

measuring cups– 1 cup, 1/2 cup
measuring spoons– tablespoon, teaspoon
large pot

Mix all ingredients in a saucepan (children can help with this step). At this point the playdough will resemble thick pancake batter. Add approximately 1/2 -1 cup glitter.

add glitter to the Glittery New Year's Ball Playdough

Cook on the stove at medium heat until mixture forms a ball (stir constantly).
Place ball on the counter to cool slightly (it will be very hot coming out of saucepan).
Knead the playdough to smooth out any bumps. When playing with the playdough some glitter will come off onto the table, but easily cleans up with a wet towel. Store in a plastic container or bag. It will last for weeks.

Our kids ooohhed and ahhhed when I brought out our special Glittery New Year’s Ball Playdough! Happy New Year!
