Homegrown Friends Kid Art Studio

April 14, 2016 by Meredith @ Homegrown Friends

The birth of my son brought a whole new world to me.  One where I was now staying home, but still an Early Childhood Educator in my heart.  Thankfully, these two worlds were fairly easy to meld together.  As our son grew and was joined by his two little sisters our house became a nice balance of comfortable living space and preschool classroom.  This Fall we hit a milestone where all three of my children enter elementary school, and I celebrate my dream of transforming my home into the Homegrown Friends Kid Art Studio.  I am so excited to welcome toddlers and preschoolers in a magical space where they will explore and experiment and learn.

One of my goals in creating the Homegrown Friends Kid Art Studio was to find a balance of indoor and outdoor spaces as well open areas for messy projects.  We have three rooms that are perfect for our toddler and preschool classes. Let’s start with my new favorite place in my home.  The breezy, sunny screened in art studio.  Oh how I love this magical space!

Look at the light shining in!  Such a happy place. I love simple work areas for kids. This space is designed with young children in mind. The table is from IKEA as are these awesome stools.  The open shelves are filled with a variety of supplies that even our youngest artists will be able to explore. This shelving unit comes in a variety of sizes and is perfect for keeping your supplies organized. Just remember to bolt it to the wall!

Because the Homegrown Friends Classes are located in New England we are indoors for months due to freezing cold temperatures.  Our indoor art studio is a minimalist space giving children room to move and letting their art shine.

The art cart in the corner of our indoor studio room holds all the days supplies making it easy for children to have independence when choosing materials.

If you have followed my blog for awhile you know I am a huge fan of using our outdoor space to create BIG ART. Having this huge space allows my imagination to go crazy and create some out-of-the-box fun for kids.

As the weather gets warmer and the sun shines bright I immediately think art explorations like feet painting and broom painting.  Fun, fun, fun!
