Easy Homemade Dinner Rolls

January 5, 2014 by Meredith @ Homegrown Friends

Cooking is such an empowering experience. In my classroom it was an essential part of our weekly activities and at home cooking with my children is part of our daily routine. Not only does cooking provide children with a wealth of knowledge, but it also builds confidence and a healthy appreciation for food. Our Easy Homemade Dinner Rolls are a fun recipe to make with children and a nice addition to a family dinner. Make some of our Homemade Butter in less than 10 minutes to serve with the rolls.

TIME TO MAKE THE EASY HOMEMADE DINNER ROLLS

Begin by dissolving the yeast in warm water in the mixing bowl. Add the honey, egg, softened butter and 1 cup of flour. Mix until combined. Add the remaining 1.5 cups of flour and continue to mix until smooth. Scrape the sides of the bowl with a spatula. This will be a sticky batter. Sprinkle about 2 teaspoons of oil on the dough and make the dough into a ball. Leave the dough in the bowl and cover for 30 minutes to let the dough rise. Have your children look at the dough before and make a prediction about what will happen. Tip: if your home or school is cold warm your oven and then turn it off. Place the bowl in the warm oven to encourage dough to rise.

After thirty minutes have your children look at the dough again. What do they notice? The yeast made the dough rise! Scoop the dough into 9 greased large muffin cups. Let the batter rise for 20- 30 minutes. While the dough rises preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Bake for 15 minutes. Serve with our Homemade Butter.
