Watercolor Heart Art

January 25, 2015 by Meredith @ Homegrown Friends

One of our favorite art materials are liquid watercolors.  The colors are so vibrant and make the most gorgeous paintings.  Because we paint with them a lot I find myself needing to come up with some creative ways to use stacks and stacks of watercolors paintings.  Last year we made this amazing Watercolor Alphabet Chart and Watercolor Collages.  This year my parents welcomed their tenth grandchild and I thought a piece of art to commemorate the love we are all feeling would be the perfect gift.   Our Watercolor Heart Art looks gorgeous hanging in their kitchen and is the perfect gift or Valentine’s Day wall art.

HOW TO MAKE WATERCOLOR HEART ART

Prior to beginning set up painting stations for each child.  We included three jars of diluted red, yellow and blue liquid watercolors, paintbrushes, and watercolor paper.  Give each child the opportunity to create watercolor paintings using the watercolors.

Let the watercolor paintings dry.  We made a lot!

Once dry cut hearts from the watercolor paintings.  My children are still mastering scissors so I did this part.  We made 10 hearts to represent my parents’ 10 grandchildren.  Make as many as  you want.  Using a low temp glue gun attach the hearts to a plain piece of watercolor paper. We framed our Watercolor Heart Art without a glass so that the 3-dimensional art would be showcased.
