Homemade Lavender Lotion

January 17, 2015 by Meredith @ Homegrown Friends

Lately my children are loving our night time lavender baths.  About 6 drops of lavender essential oil in a warm bath is the perfect end to a high-energy, kids bouncing off the walls day.  I decided to combine my children’s love of their lavender baths with the massages I have given them since birth and create our new Homemade Lavender Lotion.  This new lotion is based on our original homemade lotion that my children are always stealing from my bathroom.

WHAT YOU NEED TO MAKE HOMEMADE LAVENDER LOTION

This post contains affiliate links for your convenience.

3/4 cup unrefined coconut oil
2 tablespoons cocoa butter
1/4 cup beeswax pellets
60-80 drops lavender essential oil
mason jar
spoon

NOTE: Because you have to buy some of these ingredients in bulk the starting price is high. Don’t worry these products last for years. Save money by splitting the costs with friends and making some batches together. Our Homemade Body Lotion also makes a fantastic gift!

HOW TO MAKE HOMEMADE LAVENDER LOTION

In a glass jar (I use mason jars) combine 3/4 cup coconut oil, 1/4 cup beeswax pellets, 2 tablespoons cocoa butter and 60-80 drops of lavender essential oil. If your coconut oil is hard microwave for thirty seconds to liquify. Note: do not use a container that you will use for food. Mason jars work well because you can keep the body lotion in them.

Microwave for 1 minute and stir. Be careful the jar will be hot. If not completely melted microwave for thirty more seconds.

Set aside and let cool completely.  Once cool the lotion will look creamy.  We love using this lotion after bath time before setting down for a (hopefully) peaceful night.  Sweet dreams!

How do you keep this lotion from hardening?

If you are in a cold climate it will get hard. You can put it in a sink of hot water for about 2 minutes and it will soften up.
