Santa's Workshop - Homegrown Friends

This is the first year my four year old is really getting into Santa. Since he loves dramatic play I thought it would be fun to bring the magic of the North Pole into our living room. One of the constant fixtures in our living room is the Melissa & Doug Grocery Store . Our kids adore it, but I thought it would be a nice change of pace to transform it into Santa’s Workshop. If you don’t have one of these grocery stores you could easily use a large cardboard box or a table and chairs.

HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN SANTA’S WORKSHOP

Time to transform your everyday play grocery store into a magical Santa’s Workshop. We began with our Melissa & Doug Grocery Store . If you don’t have a toy grocery store you could easily use a small table or cardboard boxes.

I began with a trip to the Dollar Store. Jackpot! A world of tinsel garland, miniature stockings, Santa hats, wrapping paper, bows and twinkly lights met my eyes. My girls were in their glory. For about $10 we left the Dollar Store with all the materials we would need to create our Santa’s Workshop.

Back at home we set to work decorating our beloved grocery store. Within 20 minutes our imaginations took us to the North Pole, and we were hard at work creating toys and eating cookies in Santa’s Workshop.

Besides decorating with tinsel garland, glittery bows and lights I made a simple sign on white paper that said Santa’s Workshop and taped it over the Grocery Store text. I replaced the grocery food items with miniature stockings, wooden toys, tools, cookies, bows, wrapping paper and pretend letters to Santa.

We spent the rest of the afternoon pretending to be Santa and his elves making toys, wrapping them and delivering them to all the boys and girls. Ho, ho, ho!
