Healthy Snowman Snack

December 7, 2012 by Meredith @ Homegrown Friends

With all the sweets that will inevitably be passing by our mouths this holiday season its a nice change of pace to focus on a Healthy Snowman Snack. Here is the perfect opportunity to let your children play with their food. When you empower children to take ownership over their meals they are more likely to eat it and enjoy.

WHAT YOU NEED FOR THE HEALTHY SNOWMAN SNACK

We began by looking at pictures of snowmen and deciding what parts of the body we needed and what food we could use. Quinn loved brainstorming the different ways he could use our fridge and pantry food to make the snowmen parts. He decided that we would need bananas (body and head), pretzel sticks (arms), carrots (nose), banana peel (scarf), chocolate chips and raisins (eyes, mouth and buttons), grapes (boots) and graham crackers (hat). I put each ingredient in a separate dish and provided each person with a plate to create his own snowperson.

Quinn adored making his snowman and nibbling body parts along the way. He would eat parts of his snowman and then recreate it with new food items. Such a fun way to have snacktime! At 23 months, Luca was more concerned with getting her fair share of chocolate and raisins.
