The Cardboard People Art Activity focuses the attention on your children’s physical appearance. For very young children like my two year olds this will be simply creating a person with a head arms and legs. My four year old was ready to dig deeper and add details like parts of the face, realistic hair color and clothing.

WHAT YOU NEED TO MAKE CARDBOARD PEOPLE ART ACTIVITY
pieces of cardboard (I used a mailing box and a cracker box)
colored construction paper
felt or fabric (optional)
buttons
glue
paintbrush
HOW TO MAKE CARDBOARD PEOPLE ART ACTIVITY
Prior to the activity cut cardboard into varying pieces like ovals for heads, squares for bodies and long rectangles for arms and legs. Set up a tray with pieces of colored construction paper, felt or fabric pieces, a container of buttons, a small container of glue (I use a yogurt lid) with a paintbrush.
You can help guide your children during this art project by having a photograph of your child or a small mirror to use as a reference tool. Show your children how to brush the glue on the cardboard and stick another piece of cardboard on top. Using a brush instead of a glue bottle helps keep the glue use to a minimum.
Once the basic cardboard body parts are in place your child can begin to add details like hair, eyes, nose, mouth and clothing. Remember, like with all children’s art projects, it is more important to focus on the process of the art versus the end product. When speaking about your children’s work focus on what they are doing. “Look at the way you put the light brown felt on the top part of the head.” “Quinn, I notice you are adding blue and red pieces of paper.” This will give your children the opportunity to speak about their own artistic visions rather than your own.
Once dry add the cardboard people to the Star Wall.
