We are all about swimming during the Summer months. As my kids grow as swimmers they are always looking for fun ways to play together and challenge their skills. This Kids Swimming Math Game is the perfect way to play in the water while practicing sorting and counting by 1s, 5s, 10s and 25s.
WHAT YOU NEED FOR THE KIDS SWIMMING MATH GAME
diving rings- red, yellow, green, blue (we bought 4 packs)
swimming pool
HOW TO PLAY THE KIDS SWIMMING MATH GAME
Have an adult or child throw all the rings into the pool. Play the game in the shallow end or deep end depending on the skill level of the children. Note: for safety, have children stay on the side when the rings are being thrown in. It hurts to get hit with one of these!
Tell the kids that each ring is worth a different amount of points. Red rings are 25, blue are 10, green are 5 and yellow are 1. The purpose of the game is to earn the most points at the end when the rings are tallied. What will your strategy be? Will you go for as many rings as possible? Or search out the higher value rings?
Ready, set, go! Children swim around the pool collecting rings. Next count them based on their value. Have children sort their rings by color to make them easier to count. Demonstrate how we start with the highest value rings (the reds) and then work through each other kind adding them up as we go along.
Next children figure out who had the most points. Now it’s time to play again! My kids loved this game (especially when I joined in on the fun!)
