When I was 7 months pregnant with my son I got the brilliant (!) idea to plan a vacation to the Dominican Republic when my son would be 4 months. Fast forward to a full suitcase of diapers, a sobbing baby on my lap and my pants covered with baby diarrhea (yes, this really happened). Five years since that first memorable trip I have learned a lot about making traveling as easy as can be with our three little ones (now a 5 year old and twin 3 year olds). Whether I am packing for a day trip or a week long vacation that involves air travel here are my Easy Packing Tips When Traveling with Kids.
EASY TIPS FOR HOW TO PACK YOUR CHILD’S CLOTHES
Here is the easiest way to pack your child’s clothing for a trip. Keep in mind accidents happen. Even the most toilet trained child can pee her pants or spill a sticky apple juice on a crowded airplane. Begin with gallon size plastic bags. Label the outside of the bag with your child’s name and corresponding day of the week. Each plastic bag gets two full sets of clothes. To keep the clothes organized start by laying the the top out on the ground. Then put the folded bottoms and underwear on top of the shirt. Finally fold the clothing top over. This keeps a full set of clothes easily together.

Place two sets of clothes in a gallon size plastic bag. Squeeze out all the air before closing the bag. This helps the bags take up less space in a suitcase. Repeat these steps for each day of travel.
Stack the plastic bags on top of each other in the suitcase beginning with the last day of travel and making your way up to the first day of travel. Create an additional plastic bag with two sets of clothes to keep handy in a carry on bag for air travel or to keep in your car. For a five day trip I was able to fit all of my children’s clothing and toiletries in one small suitcase. Each morning I would dress my children in one of the outfits and then take the plastic bag filled with one additional outfit and put in our daytime travel bag. If an accident happened I could quickly change my child and use the plastic storage bag to keep the wet clothes.
EASY TIPS FOR PACKING A CARRY ON BAG WHEN TRAVELING WITH KIDS
If you are traveling by air what you pack in your carry on bag is essential to a successful flight with children. I use a large Pottery Barn Kids Duffle Bag with many compartments for air travel. A bag with many compartments makes it perfect for quickly finding all my secret treasures to give my kids during flights.
