I’m always on the look out for fun things to do with my kids. A few weeks ago my daughters’ preschool class colored on white playdough with markers. I knew I had to immediately come home and try it myself. We are huge fans of homemade playdough so this activity was perfect for my kids. What a fun coloring surface! I originally envisioned us just creating pictures with the markers, but we quickly discovered that when we smushed and rolled out the playdough the most beautiful, vibrant colors were created. We loved Coloring Playdough with Markers!

HOW TO EXPLORE COLORING PLAYDOUGH WITH MARKERS
Begin by making a batch of our homemade playdough. Don’t forget to leave out the food coloring. Next give each child a ball of plain playdough and the markers.
Now it’s time to explore! Give your children the freedom to use the materials however they wish. My daughters’ started by rolling out the playdough and coloring on a flatter surface. Luca wanted to write her name on her playdough.
Next the girls wanted to see what happens to the colors with they squished the playdough together with their hands.
Once in a ball the playdough was colored again and then rolled out again. Look at the gorgeous marbelization that occurred! Charlotte was inspired to create a bakery shop with our cookie cutters.
More colors added!
I was pleasantly surprised that as more marker colors were adding the playdough did not become a muddled brown.
The girls continued the process of rolling out the playdough, coloring it some more, and then rolling it out again for over 30 minutes. Such a successful morning exploration. Look at the unique playdough color we were left with in the end! I love how each time we do this it will result in completely different results. So much fun!

Love this idea! Wasn’t there staining from the pens on their hands as they manipulated the dough?

Surprisingly it didn’t get on our hands during play. All remained on the playdough. I used washable markers just in case.
